Chapter 43: Upgrade!

Finally! Finally, I decided on what phone to go for. After much deliberation, I bought the Huawei P30 Pro, which seems to have a decent enough camera to start recording with (40 MP).

Now I need to look at a good audio solution, not just the different microphones I’ll need but also a decent way of recording them. I’ll probably spend a few days looking for cheap audio recorders.

But for now, I think it’s time to start writing! Or maybe collab writing with a few friends of mine for scripts. Things feel like they are slowly getting to where I want them to be!

Chapter 42: Podcasting Again.

As this is being written it is… 2:33 AM Sunday morning. A good friend of mine and old Podcasting buddy Tom are sitting down to record a practice session for our podcast. For the last 3 hours my wife has been coming down stairs to wake my sleeping arse up from the sofa.

About a week ago I messaged Tom asking/ telling him that I want to record some more practice podcast sessions. There is a lot of things going on in my life lately, what with a new job, my wife’s Fibromyalgia, my son being born etc, so it’s hard to keep up with projects that I want to sink my teeth into, like podcasting and making movies.

It’s nice to get back into recording podcasts. Ever since I first heard about podcasts and listened to them, I think maybe 12-13 years ago, I’ve been interested in making podcasts and sharing my opinion with friends online. I honestly don’t know if anyone I record with will ever read these posts but I just want to say, thank you for being awesome and helping me move towards some of my dreams.

Chapter 40: Filming on a Budget.

So let’s talk about a Youtuber I have recently started following. D4Darious.

I found this guy while searching around on YouTube for budget movie making. In fact, he was pretty much the first video I clicked on.now I’m slowly working my way through his 160 videos.

I’m learning a lot from him, not just what equipment is worth looking at but also about finding locations, actors etc. The video I linked above gives a pretty in-depth look at filming on a budget. Even going as far as to show a short film he makes and examples of shots, shooting order, lighting, actors etc!

Please please check him out if you havee any interest in film making! Watching his videos has inspired me to bust out good old Microsoft word and to start writing again.

Chapter 38: Late To The Game

I started blogging over a year ago now and sitting down today, it seems weird to me that I’ve only made 38 posts. Things have become more hectic thanks to the addition of another screaming, pooping human being (I love you son). So anyway, I started a year ago and immediately heard about Blogtober from another blogger called The Lady Prince, and now I’ve only just remembered it.

It’s late I know but I’ll start from now and try my best to catch up!

I’ve been looking at ways to cheaply make films, from budget equipment to finding locations. I’ll create some future posts discussing people I have been following so anyone can go check them out. A lot of my time has been spent looking at upgrading my phone to one with a decent enough camera, just to at least put my foot into filming.

Most websites or blogs I’ve checked out generally recommend using a budget professional camera or they tend to just talk about the newest expensive phones, so for now I’m just flicking around and trying my best to find something affordable but good.

Also, there are a few other things I have to look into, like lights, microphones, sound recorders etc. I’ll talk about some more of these tomorrow!
